IMPORTANT ADVICE ABOUT COVID-19 (CORONAVIRUS)

With the global outbreak of Covid-19 barely out of the news headlines at the moment, we would like to reassure our customers that, as trained cleaning operatives, our aim is always to practice excellent hygiene standards and cleaning practices.

Cleaning staff are always in the firing line of germs, viruses and bugs, all year round – from D and V bugs; common cold; seasonal flu; Norovirus, Rota-virus et al – we are the ones that are wiping down areas that most people aren’t too keen on facing;  especially in busy areas such as communal toilets in large offices.

Our usual standards at The Pristine Clean means our cleaners are always wiping down door handles, telephone handsets, water taps, light switches, toilet-flushers, door panels and the like as second nature – however, with this outbreak of the highly contagious Covid-19 virus, some of our clients in busy environments, where international travel is commonplace, may well be worried and we would like to reassure them that Pristine Cleaners will continue to use anti-bacterial products and wipes and will focus our attention on lots of other places where viruses can lurk.  The Pristine Clean also have steam cleaning equipment which can be used to combat some bugs and viruses from surfaces such as desks, tables, door panels, floors, walls, radiators and internal glass.

(NB There is currently no evidence to suggest that steam cleaning alone can combat Covid-19 however it is a great way of eradicating dust mites, germs and bacteria such as Salmonella, E-Coli and Staph Bacteria - useful to know that experts have confirmed that most viruses detest heat and humidity and SARS and previous Coronaviruses have "burned out" under such conditions!!).

  • Help us to help you – if at all possible, encourage your staff members to wash their hands far more than they would ordinarily do. Public Health England recommend using soap and water, washing hands for around 20 seconds! THIS alone is the most effective way to prevent people from contacting most viruses. Anti-bacterial hand gel, (no water needed), is also advised if you have no access to soap and water!

  • Alongside the washing of hands, you should also resist touching your eyes, nose and mouth as much as you can.  You and your work colleague's hands touch many surfaces throughout the day and will be picking up germs and viruses - an unavoidable fact!  When your hands become contaminated they can transfer the virus/germs to you through your eyes, nose and mouth.  It is through these entry points that a virus can enter your system and make you ill.

  • Another vital piece of advice would be to encourage staff to look after their own workplaces and to regularly wipe their telephone handsets and keyboards and the general desk area, (using anti-bacterial wipes/wiping down with antibacterial sprays is sufficient).  Please be reminded that no matter what anti-bacterial product you use, they all have a specific time to work - known as "Tack Time" - All disinfectants require a certain amount of time on surfaces to work effectively.  Some disinfectants can take up to ten minutes to kill common germs and viruses.  It is vital that you know whether or not you can just spray and wipe or if you may have to spray and wait before wiping!  This information is usually found on most packaging.

  • Staff should get into the habit of, and, maintain the practice of using their own workstation areas wherever possible. Keep your own space, safe!
For communal areas, Pristine Cleaners will wipe down the high traffic areas where viruses can linger; especially those areas that are constantly being touched by different people, eg, Kettle handles, microwave buttons and digital panels, fridge handles, chairs and tables in communal canteens/kitchens – Also desks, armchairs, light switches, drawer handles, underneath table edges, buttons on photocopiers, paper shredder machines and water dispensers in main offices and conference rooms.

With the outlook unsure at the moment as to how long this outbreak will continue, we shall do our utmost to ensure that exposure to the virus in the workplace or at home is kept to the bare minimum!

In the UK, the current medical advice is that if you have recently travelled from areas affected by coronavirus, you should:

• stay indoors and avoid contact with other people as you would with the flu
• call NHS 111 to inform them of your recent travel to the area

We shall update this page with any further developments.
